Lake Como is situated at the Northern tip of Italy below Switzerland. It is 146 kilometers squared and is surrounded by tall Mountains belonging to the Alps.
It is a holiday destination for Italians especially, but there were also people from all over Europe there. With the steep prices and ritzy shops, we found that Lake Como was particularly geared towards wealthier people. It was really the first place where I noticed Italians being pompous about their money. I am wondering if it is the nature of being a northerner.
Liz, Cathy, and I took a 2 hour Ferry Ride around Lake Como to Bellagio, which is a small town located on the banks of Como. The Ferry Ride was the highlight of my stay at Como, as it was absolutely beautiful! I could have gazed at the views of mountains, lakes, and extravagant villas forever.
…..and here is George Clooney’s Villa
At one point a group of German girls dressed in Maid costumes that were part of a Bachelorette party came on the Ferry. The bride was selling things to “get money for her wedding.” She had a few options of products she was selling including rubber duckys, bubbles, shots of liquor, and a song sung by the bride. I bought a rubber ducky and Liz bought a song. The bride had some pipes! She was an incredible singer.
Bellagio was a lot of fun. It was a charming little town with cobblestone streets and cute boutiques that sold everything from silk scarves to leather purses. However, everything was way out of my price range. I had a lot of fun walking around and imagining myself with the products I couldn’t afford.
I am now leaving Italy and heading to Switzerland. Arrivederci Italia! It has been real.
