Luca arrived in Auckland the same day I got back from Karekare and we left for our grand tour of New Zealand the day after. It was fun to hear his responses to the landscapes on our drive down to Cambridge because they were the same ones I first had.
I had a blast traveling alone on my first week, but it was nice to be with the boy again. We had been away for each other since before Christmas when he went to Italy to visit his family for the holidays.
Luca and I heard about the Tree Church from a travel website and made sure to put it on our itinerary for our tour of New Zealand. Barry Cox made a church entirely out of trees. The church is open to the public and is used as an event venue for weddings and parties. It was as beautiful and peaceful as can be. Someday I would like to make something similar to it.
We heard about the Hamilton Gardens from a brochure I grabbed at our hostel in Auckland. Luca and I love gardens and thought it would be an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. We were pleasantly surprised. This was not just any garden, but basically a museum of gardens. The grounds had many different types of gardens such as a Indian Char Bagh Garden, a English Flower Garden, a Italian Renaissance Garden, a Herb Garden, a Tudor Garden, ect. It was lovely.
A side note: Luca took most of these pictures, so the photography credit is his. We are sharing a camera and I honestly have been fine with letting him snap away while I enjoy the scenery through two eyes instead of a lens.
